Severe AKI induced by oxaliplatin: a case report

Essraa Tala Kouma, Ghufran Abdulrahman Emamaddin, Abdullah Almalki.

Abstract
Background: Oxaliplatin is used for the treatment of colorectal cancer, and it can be used in combinations with other therapy. Although it is widely used and potentially improves the response and survival rates, it has several side effects. With increasing use of oxaliplatin, there have been an increasing number of acute kidney injury (AKI) cases reported.
Method: Here we report a case of severe AKI after receiving FOLFOX regimen for the treatment of colorectal cancer. He required four sessions of hemodialysis; then his urine output started to improve as well as the renal function.
Conclusion: Finally, kidney function returned to baseline by 6 weeks.

Key words: Acute kidney injury, acute tubular necrosis, oxaliplatin
