Exploring the knowledge, attitudes, and perceptions of emergency medicine physicians in Saudi Arabia toward the implementation of artificial intelligence technologies

Abstract
Objective: This study aimed to investigate the knowledge, attitudes, practices, and perceptions of technologies in their field.
Methods: This cross-sectional research was conducted on emergency medicine (EM) physicians using an online survey between the periods of December 2024 and May 2025; the study included all EM physicians from all regions and hospitals in Saudi Arabia.
Results: A total of 150 participants were enrolled, of whom 4.7% were strongly knowledgeable regarding artificial intelligence (AI) applications in EM. Further, 37.3% reported using AI in clinical practice. Transparency of the data was strongly agreed to be a factor increasing the probability of using AI in clinical practice, as reported by 37.3% of the participants.
Conclusion: EM physicians in Saudi Arabia had insufficient knowledge, inadequate attitudes, perceptions, and practices regarding AI application in the EM field. This requires the establishment of awareness educational programs to be provided for the physicians in order to improve the application of AI in EM and improve the patients’ outcomes.
