Unusual First Presentation of Colon Cancer,A Rare Case Report and Literature Review

Abstract
Background: Adenocarcinoma is a common cancer originating in glandular tissues across different organs. This report
presents an unusual case of adenocarcinoma, detailing its clinical progression, diagnostic challenges, and
treatment plan.
Case persentation: A computed tomography (CT) scan of the brain revealed a right parietal mass causing a
midline shift. Our patient was admitted and underwent a craniotomy for lesion excision, followed by
treatment with dexamethasone and Keppra. Further imaging detected a non-specific pulmonary nodule,
suspicious thyroid nodules, and a concerning lesion in the distal descending/sigmoid colon, with potential
lymph node involvement and peritoneal deposits. A colonoscopy confirmed an obstructing colonic mass,
leading to a referral for laparoscopic hemicolectomy.
Conclusion: this case underscores the importance of early
diagnosis and a comprehensive treatment approach in managing adenocarcinoma. It highlights the value of
a multidisciplinary team in addressing complex cases and discusses potential complications and outcomes.
Despite adenocarcinoma being a well-recognized cancer, its presentation can vary significantly. Early
identification and prompt intervention are crucial for better patient outcomes. Further research is needed to
refine treatment strategies for such rare presentations.
