Effects of dysmenorrhea on women of reproductive age

Abstract
Objective:
This study aimed to examine the range and extent of symptoms experienced by the participants because of dysmenorrhea.
Methods:
This study utilized a cross-sectional survey distributed via social media in Saudi Arabia over six months. The sample targeted women aged 18–49 years residing in Saudi Arabia.
Results:
Dysmenorrhea significantly diminishes quality of life by impairing physical, academic, and psychosocial functioning. Beyond severe menstrual pain, the condition was linked to substantial productivity loss through both absenteeism and presenteeism and was associated with mood disturbances, sleep deprivation, anxiety, and depression.
Conclusion:
Dysmenorrhea impacted women physically, mentally, and behaviorally. More research is needed to map specific symptoms to each type of disease.
