Clinical outcomes of overweight and obese patients in a lifestyle medicine clinic at PHCC, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, December 2024: a retrospective observational study

Abstract
Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the practices and assess the health outcomes of overweight/obese patients in the lifestyle medicine clinic (LSMC) in Alwazarat primary healthcare centers (PHCC) in Prince Sultan Military Medical City (PSMMC), Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Methods: This was a retrospective observational cohort study conducted on obese/overweight adults visiting LSMC in Alwazarat PHCC in PSMMC during the period from 01 January 2023 to 31 December 2024. Their data were collected from their medical records.
Results: A total of 419 participants were enrolled; the body mass index at baseline and follow-up was 36.2 ± 3.6 and 34.8 ± 3.9, respectively. The net weight loss and weight loss percentage were 6.5 ± 5.2 and 7.1 ± 5.3 kg, respectively. Weight loss percentage was considerably linked with Saxenda prescription (p = 0.0001).
Conclusion: LSMC was effective in reducing the weight of overweight and obese individuals, and this was linked with fewer requirements for weight loss medication. Weight loss of more than 10% was associated with a reduction in diastolic blood pressure. However, weight reduction displayed no beneficial impact on systolic blood pressure, glycosylated haemoglobin, blood sugar, or lipid profile.
