Prediction of long-term survival in acute aortic dissection by the false lumen condition; systematic review

Abstract
This review aimed to find out how the false lumen status impacted the long-term acute aortic dissection (AAD) patient’s outcomes. The preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analyses guideline was followed in the conduct of this study. A language-neutral automated search of the PubMed, Cochrane, and Embase databases was carried out between the years 2010 and 2024. Papers analyzing the false lumen state and the risk of long-term outcomes in AAD patients were found using the search terms thrombus, thrombosis, thrombi, clot, false lumen, aortic dissection, and dissection of the aorta. In contrast to full false lumen thrombosis (FLT), the analysis of six original research showed a significant relation between elevated risk of long-term aortic events in patients with AAD types A and B and residual patent false lumen (PFL). Furthermore, compared to a fully PFL, partial FLT seems to be a long-term mortality predictor in type B AAD.
