A successful relief of esophageal coin obstruction in a 6 years old child following cola ingestion: case report

Abstract
Background: We present the case of a 6-year-old patient who exhibited symptoms of foreign body ingestion (FBI) and was treated conservatively. This case is meant to demonstrate the ingestion of metal coins and the possible contribution of carbonated drinks to their dislodgement.
Case Presentation: A 6-year-old female patient swallowed a metal coin and was medically treated in the emergency department. The patient was asymptomatic and follow-up radiographs revealed spontaneous coin transit through the gastrointestinal tract.
Results: We aimed to provide supportive management. As a result, the foreign body passed without intervention upon carbonated beverage ingestion.
Conclusion: This case highlights the critical need for due diligence in risk assessment, cautious observation, and noninvasive management approaches for FBI in pediatric patients.
