Abstract
Objective:
This study aimed to assess the knowledge, attitude, and practice towards breast cancer among the Saudi female population.
Methods:
A cross-sectional study was conducted through the year 2025 using an online form. The questionnaire was divided into three domains: socio-demographic characteristics, the participant’s knowledge of breast cancer and breast self-examination (BSE), and their experience of breast cancer screening and BSE.
Results:
The overall response rate was 100%, as all 1200 participants responded to the questionnaire. The study group was aged from 18 to 69 years, married (52.2%), highly educated with bachelor's degree (70.3%), and were from the middle region (34.4%). The most common source of information reported by all individuals was the awareness campaigns (50.4%). More than 30% of the participants understood that hormonal contraceptive use. Also, 95% of the participants knew that early detection of breast cancer leads to improved treatment outcomes. Most of the study participants (51%) knew how to perform a BSE, and 90.3% were aware of the importance of BSE for the early detection of breast cancer, but only 17.4% had ever performed BSE themselves monthly. About mammograms in hospitals, 89.2%, did not undergo the screening.
Conclusion:
Saudi Females had good knowledge of breast cancer symptoms and signs. They were also clear about etiology and risk factors associated with breast cancer. The practice of clinical breast examination and mammography was rare among the participants. Appropriate educational interventions are urgently required to encourage women to engage in regular BSE.
