Management of duodenal gastrointestinal stromal tumor with postoperative complications: a case report

Abstract
Background: The rare mesenchymal neoplasm known as duodenal gastrointestinal stromal tumor presents multiple treatment difficulties to healthcare providers.
Case Presentation: A Saudi woman at age 69 years sought medical care because of cholelithiasis, leading to duodenal GIST diagnosis. The performance of endoscopic procedures EUS played an essential role for both diagnosis and treatment purposes. Pathological analysis of her specimen identified a low-risk spindle cell GIST, size less than 5 cm, and mitotic rate found 2/50 high power field, which indicate less aggressive tumor. After
surgical management, the patient encountered postoperative gastrointestinal obstruction, which required pyloric dilatation as the treatment method.
Conclusion: The management of duodenal GIST patients as per guidelines, along with their complications, requires multiple specialties.
